Your approach for hollow a 3d object? (by Marcel d)
Hello everyone,

How do you hollow out 3D objects?
I trace the outlines and set the distance to e.g. 1 or 2 mm and extrude as difference. It`s a little pain in the ass when the shape is little bit more complex

Copying and pasting the outlines with scaling is not ideal because the lines are "break" into single elements when make dimension/restrictions.

How do you do this if you want a wall thickness of, say, 1 mm with my attached example

Thanks for your help!

You do have to create the inner sketch, however use can be made of equal length etc (Q), to set equal gaps between lines. You select a point and a line, and another point and the same or different line and set them equal. This allow the spacing to be set and edited by a single dimension. See attached modified version of your model. The '4' dimension can be changed to the desired wall thickness.
