Customizing the command ribbon: making the icons larger and changing the ribbon color. (by Ben le Roux)
I find the icons to small and not standing out clearly enough against the black background.
Can I customise it and how.

If you change the DPI setting with your OS, then all the UI (including the icons) should get bigger. I don't think there's any way to change just the icons.
There is no way to change the tool bar. (by ruevs)
My personal suggestion would be to look at the tool tips when hovering the icons in the tool bar. All of them have keyboard shortcuts. Once you learn them the toolbar becomes completely useless and you hide it - from the View menu.
Once the tool bar is hidden - all of the toolbar commands are in the menus as well with the respective shortcuts listed. Which is very handy for the rerer ones when one forgets the shortcut.
