Attaching comment to entity (by Daniel Engineering Solutions)
I've decided to dig back into the drawing templates that I made a few years back. I have a specific idea on how to add notes to the face of the print, but it requires being able to attach comments to entities (points, lines, etc). Does anyone know if that's possible? If not what is the formal request process? Do I just submit the feature request on github?

Thanks!

Since version 3.1 you can associate a comment with a point entity. Just select the point and press semicolon (is that the comment shortcut?). The comment position will be relative to the point. You can position the comment with the mouse, but it is attached to the point and will follow it.

Is there a way to add a leader line to them, so that they point to a specific entity?

No, but this is something I think about. What should the line attach to?

The leader line can attach to the point that anchors the comment, and the user can place and constrain a point where they want the leader to end.

Well then just draw the leader line as a construction line and attach the comment to end point. Right? I'm sure there's a problem with that, what is it?

Paul, that's what I've been doing, so it definitely works just fine. The only problem with it is, that because the comment and the leader line are not the same "type" if you hide the dimensions/constraints the leader lines remain. I'm sure there's a fix I could do with line styles, I just haven't looked into it yet.

A leader line needs to be the same type as the leader lines created for dimensions., and non selectable as a target for constraints. A construction line becomes orphaned in the next group created, and can be mistakenly selected when creating constraints. Indeed it would seem that the mechanism is there to create one automatically for a comment, treat it as dimension text.

To clarify my last post, a comment is essentially a reference dimension, with a single leader, and any necessary text character and length limitations. That way is fits with dimensions for managing what is show, and it does not affect the solver, and can be attached to any entity a dimension can be attached to.
