Dxf import, construction to solid? (by Mark)
I converted a step file to dxf, both in free cad and solidworks. However, importing the dxf into solvespace it complains about z, and turns it into construction lines. I have done a search, but cannot find a way to turn it into a solid (it’s quite a complex object) how do I turn it into a solid?

I need it as I’m using other peoples step files to design casings to incorporate the real world parts, so I need the measurements

Have you tried creating and importing an STL, via link/assemble? It come in as a solid object.

I need to add measurements to the object, especially hole diameter and distances. Most programs I’ve tried aren’t accurate enough in measuring STL, especially empty spaces inside objects and it’s almost impossible trying to measure holes centre to centre, or centre to edge accurately.

I’m used to designing with 3d builder from Microsoft, and find that can be frustrating merging two models of your own design, it can drive you nuts when you’re trying to merge two models from different sources because you don’t know the exact dimensions of various features of the models

Playing with admittedly 2d DXF imports, I noticed that they were editable, errored out because of shared lines between areas., However by importing the DXF and immediately saving it as a new file, and then importing this into a new drawing, both problems were solved, and dimensions could be taken from drawing entities, and the lines etc could be used in constraints.. If you need to show the solid model, you could bring in a STL.

I hope this helps.
