Rounded edges? (by Joshua)
I'm testing the capabilities of SolveSpace and I'm having trouble creating rounded edges around the entirety of a cube.

What I'm trying to achieve:

https://wiki.blender.org/uploa..._cube_Rounded_Cube_Corners.jpg

Rounding the corners of a square in a workplane and extruding it is simple enough:

Setting a workplace on top of the cube and extruding difference geometry to round the vertical edges kind of works (if "force NURBS surfaces to triangle mesh" is selected, but I don't know the downsides to using this option):

As you can see, there is still a visible edge between the 2 rounded edges which would need to be rounded off.

I have a feeling that this all might be possible with some carefully placed construction geometry and rotational difference extrusions but it's seeming like more work than it's worth.

Any tips to make something like this work?

Thanks!

This sort of geometry is more or less impossible to create in SolveSpace right now. It's a known limitation.

Would be a much apreciated feature. (by mmiscool)
This would be a much appreciated feature. Being able to select an edge and put either a fillet or chamfer on it would be highly beneficial.

You should not go using difference. You can create hemi spheres on the corners using lathe.

Unfortunately, while being obviously useful, this is highly complex to implement, so don't expect this any time soon.

Using the new Revolve group in the master branch this is not too difficult. See the attached file. You can drag the cube size and radius of the edges.

Hello!

Sorry, but the link from blender.org does not work for me, so I can only guess what you want to achieve.

However, in case you just want all corners and edges rounded, it should be possible to do it "the OpenSCAD way" in SolveSpace:

Hope that helps...

Interestingly, when I tried to open Paul's example, I get this :

solvespace cube_round.slvs

Mike O. That file will only work with the latest SolveSpace built from source code in the last few weeks. The unexpected group type is likely the Revolve group used to create the rounded cube corners. Version 3.0 will have that feature but it is not available in a pre-built release yet.

If you have built the latest SS and are encountering this problem, that would be important to know.

For Linux users, there are regulary built DEB's packages on 'alex-p' PPA

for Debian/Ubuntu - https://notesalexp.org/

for Ubuntu - https://launchpad.net/~alex-p/+archive/ubuntu/solvespace
