Extrude failure (by Clinton Winant)
Having just completed Tutorial 1, I am trying to extend to a slightly different problem, where the bracket is replaced by several planes (2 different groups each drawn in its own workplane, shown in light gray) and the gusset is replaced by a plate in the yz plane, drawn in a third workplane, shown in dark gray. When I go to extrude this plate, the result is garbage. Since the lines are represented in heavy red lines, I assume there are conflicting constraints, but not sure which??

It looks like the union of the solid parts if failing, probably because you're creating an edge-on-edge situation. No real objects share an edge like that. If the last extrusion is supposed to form an end-cap of sorts for the other extrusions, please constrain it to the outside perimeter of the walls rather than the inside. That's what I did a few minutes ago in the other thread with the same/similar file.

First thanks so much for the taking the time to do this. I am a total convert, and want to invest time now to get a solid foundation.
Not sure what you are referring to when you say edge on edge. Think of the very simple example included here as a pvc trough to which I want to fit a pvc end plate (I only included half the end so I could see better.) This is a real life situation with the end piece glued to the trough along the common boudary. It seems that is ok?
The edges involved in the earlier example were actually in different workplanes. Is this not enough to keep them distinct?
I guess my question might be are edge on edge situations forbidden, or at least to be avoided?
