Failed boolean operation on intersecting tubes (by sdon)

I'm trying to model two intersecting tubes and have a failure on the boolean operations to create the inside diameter cutouts. Any tips on a better way to model this?
Forcing to triangle mesh creates a model that I cannot export due to naked edges.
