Noob Problem with Extrude (by Joseph)
I created a sketch, and I can't get it to extrude.

The part I am trying to make is gasket, which is to be stamped out of a cork sheet, and be 1/16" thick. It is a ring, with an outer diameter of 6.88" and an inner diameter of 5.12". In the body of the ring, it has 16 equally spaced holes, 3" from the center of the gasket, measuring .281" in diameter.

I first sketched the outer circle, then the inner circle, then dimensioned both. Next, I sketched one of the small holes, and dimensioned it. I then used the "step and repeat rotating" tool to repeat this hold 16 times. This gives me the 2D drawing of the part I want.

I need to extrude the part however, so that I can get a 3D model and export it to .dwf, so it can be manufactured.

When I attempt to extrude, it just says "err" under "df", which I assume means "degrees of freedom". I'm not sure what I am doing wrong.

I would appreciate help. I have tried to provide all relevant information. Attached, please find the file I am working with.

This is a common issue/mistake. When you create the rotate group, Solvespace is creating a bunch of copies of the inner and outer circle as well as the hole. That means you've got a bunch of circles all on top of each other and that causes the extrusion to fail.


There are several ways to handle this:

1) create the inner and outer circles, extrude, then create a new sketch-in-workplane, draw and extrude one hole, then step-rotate that 3D hole.


2) create the inner and outer circles, extrude, then create a new sketch-in-workplane, draw the hole, step-rotate the 2d hole, then extrude all the holes.


3) create the hole first, then step-rotate the hole, then in the same group, draw the inner and outer circles, then extrude the whole thing.


I prefer method 3 because it only uses a single extrude operation, but the other approaches are OK too.
