Seems I forgot how to extrude after rotation (by Thomas)
Hi folks,
for some reason I can´t extrude anymore after a very simple sketch rotation. Neither cut nor creation of material works. I always get the warning that there is no active sketch and I have the rotated feature selected which usually worked.
My desk and my hand is already pretty beaten up :D

Adding the group with the 60% constraint is what is causing your problem, It is not needed for equably spaced around a circle. If you want to constrain the rotation to an arc, you will have to select and use 'Sketch/In Workplane to set a plane for the extrusion. In the example that can be the XY plane. Extrusion is carries out normal to the active workplane, which does not have to be the workplane for the sketch.

Hmm, not sure If I understand correctly.
I have to constrian to 60° degree to get an equal spacing. No matter what I select I dont get an active sworkplane or sketch since the rotaion command is not recognised as such. I f I create a new sketch from active workplane it logically doesnt see the old features as part of the sketch.
Confused, never got problems with this. Tried in 3.0 and 3.1 (win/linux)

Ah ok, the constrain is fine but I really had to choose the X-Y plane first. Thats weird I can´t remember I did that before. I suaually just draw the sketch and extrude immediately, same with other "special" features" like linear pattern.
It could automatically inherit that from the previous sketch (the one that got rotated) as there will be no chance you extrude in any other direction (after rotation) from a flat 2d sketch.

People have rotated a 2d sketch around a construction line within the sketch by 180 degrees to achieve a mirror image.

OK, thats not what I mean.
The thing is:
- Create a sketch in a plane xy
- rotate sketch in that plane xy
(plane selection necessary allthough there is no other way to extrude that sketch. Therefore the direction can be inherited from the sketch plane)
- extrude sketch in that plane xy
That would save some unnecessary steps :)

With your original model, i deleted and recreated the rotate group, and set the angle, and it extruded without any problem. So it looks like you did something that caused the group to go into sketch anywhere in 3d,, but I can't see anything in the file that explains that. Hitting the '3' key switches to draw anywhere in 3D which does cause the problem that you had, and i suspect you did that by accident.

I tried to recreate it again. You are right, it happens when I slightly angle the view with the space mouse to select the normal and point for the rotation. The normal is not needed as long as one is in the sketch non 3d workplane. When I directly select the point only and rotate it works fine.
It is mentioned in the quick help for rotation as well.
Thanks for looking into it guys :) . The sketch mirror by paul is also helpful. Haven't thought of that. Only used the linear feature so far for that :P
