noob problem with point on plane (by Mark Chambers)
I'm trying to extrude a hole through an extruded rectangle, just like in the Introductory Tutorial.
I created a workplane on the face of the rectangle then placed and sized the hole. When I use the procedure outlined in the tutorial I get an unsolvable constraints error.
What am I missing? Thanks
P.S. I'm enjoying using the program and must commend you for the quality of the tutorials and the Reference manual.

Using version 2.3 here, under Manjaro Linux, and your sketch opened fine, and I was able to select difference and make the hole.

Andrew,
Thank you for your response.
I'm using 2.3 on Windows 7 Pro x64.
I tried making the g009 extrude a difference before applying the point on plane constraint, but it still fails.
Please see the attached composite screen shot.

In the properties window, you have a pair of radio buttons to select whether the extrusion is to be added or subtracted from the model (union/difference), and it defaults to union and you need to select difference to make a hole, You may have to drag the end of the extrusion in make it go through the solid.

I did select difference to make the extrusion subtractive.
How do I drag the end of the extrusion? I can't find any info to that process in the reference manual.
Thanks

I got it to work by deleting the existing extrusion and recreating it on the other side of the object. I was then able to either drag the differential extrusion face or to use point on plane to extrude the hole.

With an extrusion, just grab a point on the end away from the sketch plane and drag it, or use a constraint to a line or plane to set its length, using the middle mouse button to rotate the object a necessary.

In the picture it looks like the point in question already has a distance constraint keeping it 4.97mm from the base sketch. You're not going to be able to drag it when the position is fixed like that. Delete that constraint before constraining point-on-plane.
