2D export (by John Griessen)
I am wanting to use a parametric model I made with solvespace in FreeCAD.
One simplifying way would be to export a surface, since it would have no construction lines or dimension lines, just a face. That's just what I need for the next step in FreeCAD to sweep it through a hexagon with rounded corners shape.
I tried this on a sketch and the program says, no surface to export.
What needs doing there? Create an extrusion in 3D, then select a face and run
export surface? I'll try that next.

I tried extrude, then select face and it did not matter. The whole 3D shape was exported. It did not have edges that looked good in FreeCAD, even though analyze showed good in solvespace before exporting.
Is there more to do to get a good export?

There's no way to export surfaces without exporting the complete solid shell. You should be able to explode the shell in FreeCAD and then delete all but the desired surface, though. What looked wrong there?
What looked wrong solvespace bezier --> FreeCAD export/ import (by John Griessen)
The edges of a bezier curve. The "curves" have piecewise linear flats that do not go away as I zoom in FreeCAD. The side of the extrusion edge does not match the original face. Part of the mismatch appears to be open to the interior as in not water tight. Yet solvespace analyze says good before exporting surfaces to .stp file.
Beziers are most useful for the work I am doing making molds for plastic parts.
Plus for any kind of "industrial design" look.
I will see what I can test within FreeCAD, and maybe blender loads STEP now...
What else to test with for such? Meshlab is for meshes, so not sure if it imports STEP. Still just a newbie at STL related CAD
