The latest "edge" builds on github have the ability to "link" STL files. It still might change in ways that might break constraints applied, but you can use it to modify STLs and then export them.
All groups after the STL linking will be forced to triangle mesh.

Mihail, for import STL in latest SolveSpace `edge` (v3.x) builds go to menu "New Group > Link / Assemble" and select STL file to import - then it could be operated same way as linked SLVS files.
NOTE: After import STL whole model would be swithced into "force NURBS surfaces to triangle mesh".
As an addition to Paul reply, I may recommend your firstly read thread on actual STL import issue (because some STL fiels may freeze you PC):
