Constraints for Cam Follower (by MattE)
I'm using Solvespace to resolve mechanism geometry. Most of these are in 2D. Currently, I'm working on a cam profile that consists of tangent arcs. The follower for it is a roller.

Is there a way to constrain the roller such that it's always in contact with the cam and tangent to it? I can simulate this for a section (single arc) of the cam with a radial constraint to the centre of the roller, but can't figure out how to maintain tangency for the entire cam.

The problem that you are having is that you want to constrain a point to lies of one of several segments, or alternatively one of several radii depending on rotation angle. That is not possible with the current constraint system.

Please, try http://notecad.xyz
Still in development, but for 2d mechanisms there are more constraints (tangents, distances). Also, you can create arbitrary equations and entities. Also, inequealities is supported.

Try Pyslvs - open source planar (2D) linkage mechanism simulation and mechanical synthesis system, based on SolveSpace kernel:
