What file are you editing? That doesn't look like any of the source files, and if you're editing the binary executable then I'd expect various surprising results.

I don't recommend that. I'd suggest cloning the latest source from git, editing the strings in the source files, and building new ("nmake -f Makefile.msvc" with the build changes underway by Daniel Richard G, towards a Unix port).
